1. EAT As MUCH RAW PRODUCE AS POSSIBLE-
MOST of the CULTURES of the world ONLY COOK A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF THEIR FOOD. in America, nearly 80% of our food we consume is cooked, heated, processed or pasteurized.
In other cultures COOKING FOOD WAS DONE TO SOME VEGGIES TO SOFTEN FIBERS TO MAKE THEM MORE DIGESTIBLE and or edible. A GREAT EXAMPLE IS TARO ROOT. THIS ISLAND NATIVE PLANT, (YOU'VE PROBABLY HEARD OF IT OR SEEN IF YOU HAVE VISITED ANY OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.) IN IT'S COOKED FORM- THIS ROOT BECOMES an ISLAND STAPLE "POi". UNCOOKED THIS PLANT IS INEDIBLE. THE ANCESTORS OF THE HAWAIIAN/POLYNESIAN PEOPLE SAW AN UBANDANCE OF THIS PURPLE ROOT AND WITH (WE CAN ONLY GUESS) TRIAL AND ERROR THEY DISCOVERED WHEN YOU COOK THE LIVING DAY LIGHT OUT OF IT- IT BECOMES AN EDIBLE STARCH, POi. WITH THE CONSISTENCY AND nutrition value of BABYFOOD POi IS STILL A STAPLE OF INFANTS AND EATEN AT TRADITIONAL LUAUS.
A LOT OF WORLD CULTURES DID, AND EVEN TODAY, EAT THEIR MEAT RAW.
now- I am not suggestion that we need to stop cooking our meat. it is just good to understand the history and changes in the food that our ancestors ate to the food we eat today.
COOKING MEAT WAS DEVELOPED TO KILL THE BAD BACTERIA THAT GROWS AFTER MEAT is NO LONGER FRESH. they also used salt to preserve meats, by coating every inch and letting it dry out. THE WORD FRESH IS THE main buzz word there- the ever growing population and the almost completely dissipated "hunter/gatherer" lifestyle has destroyed the ability to consume fresh meat not only in America but everywhere. therefore even the best quality (responsibly raised/organic) meat and poultry needs to be cooked to the accurate temperature to kill bacteria that makes humans sick.
what should we eat raw?
at least 50% of your food (fruits/veggies/nuts)
when you cook your fruits or veggies (and let's get real, most of us cook most of our veggies. another big one is nuts- roasted nuts = cooked nuts) when you do this you kills vital enzymes that are important for your digestion. most enzymes cannot survive heat over 110' degrees F. many vitamins and secondary nutrients in foods are also heat sensitive. when we eat predominately cooked foods it can increase your chances of becoming vitamin and enzyme deficient. this also can cause digestion problems down the road.
"raw foods and juices have been used for thousands of years to recover from illness and detoxify the body. quite simply, it takes life to give life. if everything you eat is dead, you'll soon be one of those people who die at 35 but whose corpse continues to walk around for another 35 years, bouncing from doctor to doctor. (how to eat move and be healthy. by paul check). "
when you eat- we suggest that at least 50% of your plate should be raw foods. (fruits, veggies and nuts.) fill your body with vitamins and minerals from a wide variety of raw produce. these vitamins and minerals are most absorbable in foods vs. a supplement. and if you don't need to take another supplement- then why should we?
cook less veggies. enjoy a smoothie or juice. eat an abundance of salads. eat fresh fruit and a handful of raw nuts every single day! when you do cook, use fresh herbs and spices- and lightly cook your veggies or add them in at the last minute. enjoy the food we eat as nature intended it. fresh, natural and meant to provide health + happiness.
