Myoskeletal Alignment is a form of manual therapy that incorporates muscle-balancing techniques with joint-mobilization maneuvers to identify and correct dysfunctional neurologically driven stain and stress on the body. This strain and stress on the body can be caused by poor posture, the body's adaptation to injuries and dissymmetry. Myoskeletal Alignment at Functional Health and Wellness will heal your long term pain and discomfort by identifying the underlying cause with an initial full body assessment and then personalized programs and sessions to correct the body's alignment, relieve pain and improve functionality and mobility. Myoskeletal Alignment was originally developed by Erik Dalton, PhD, in the early 80s after seeing a need for a more integrative perspective on pain science as it applies to the human body.
Functional integrative manual therapy is a treatment using a combination of several manual therapy and massage therapy techniques. using whole body alignment as the goal, beau thiesen MAT. CMT. CES. uses several different assessments and treatment approaches to find balance in the body and get the client closer to alignment.
Typically a Manual therapy treatment will include an extensive whole body assessment and treatment of imbalances, using different positions, pressure, rocking, gentle manipulations, stretching, Active release techniques, mfr (myofascial release), and strain counter strain methods. we ask the client to wear comfortable clothing- or athletic wear for their first treatment to better be assessed and allow our professionals to treat the client in different positions and with a variety of movements.
OSTEOPATHIC MANUAL THERAPY (OMT)
What is Osteopathic Manual Therapy: Health isn’t determined by how well each system functions, but how well they function together. Health is a collective result of all body systems working together giving support from one another in a harmonious manner. Osteopathic Manual Therapy is a corrective manual therapy that incorporates a whole-body system approach. It aims to restore one’s healthy position, mobility, and vitality of the tissues through a series of soft manual techniques that may include stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. The intention is to find the root cause of the underlying imbalances and stimulate your body’s natural healing process to self-heal, self-regulate and self-protect aiding the body to return toward its innate sense of balance.
What to expect during an Osteopathic Treatment:
During an osteopathic manipulation, you’ll stand up, sit or lie down on an exam table. The professional will touch your muscles and soft tissues and move your limbs in different positions. There are several OMT techniques and assessments that your professional may use to identify and treat those imbalances. Depending on the technique, we may ask you to lay on your back, roll onto your side, or pull your knees to your chest or several other positions. While you’re in these positions, our OMT will use pressure and gentle manipulation to stretch your muscles and move your joints into proper alignment. Your OMT may ask you to hold and release your breath at specific times. Most OMT treatments are done fully clothed- and we ask that clients receiving manual therapy treatments come to their initial treatment in comfortable or athletic style clothing (shorts or stretchy athletic pants that they can move easily in) and make it easier for the client to be assessed or treated. We may use slow, continuous pressure or quick, sudden manipulations. Some of the movements may feel a little strange or awkward but typically are therapeutic and relaxing. Active Release Techniques, Myofascial Release and other Massage Techniques can also be used to further benefit the clients needs during an OMT treatment.
Sports Massage
Sports massage was developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function more efficiently during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. But you don't have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion. At Functional Health + Wellness our skilled massage therapists concentrate on specific problems or areas that you present, usually associated with some sort of sports activity, such as running, tennis, or golf. After a great workout a sports massage at Functional Health + Wellness will encourage the return of blood and oxygen to tense areas, and flush out metabolic waste products that have built up during strenuous muscle use. Massage will reduce soreness and will promote greater performance.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY + Relaxation Massage
Relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle style of massage that is designed to improve your circulation, your range of movement, relieve minor muscle pain, and promote overall relaxation. This massage technique is not necessarily designed for therapeutic effects or for dealing with chronic pain or discomfort but to promote rest and relaxation.
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage encompasses several modalities. At Functional Health + Wellness our therapeutic massage includes; Thai and Swedish and Deep Tissue. Therapeutic massage improves the function of the muscular, circulatory, lymphatic, skeletal and nervous systems. It also improves the rate in which the body recovers from injury or illness. Therapeutic massage offers relaxations while also relieving pain and discomfort.
Manual Stretching Therapy
At Functional Health + Wellness we offer manual 1-1 professional stretching services in 15 and 30 minute sessions. We use an active stretching technique that provides effective, dynamic, facilitated stretching of soft tissue, but more importantly, provides functional and physiological restoration. We focus on improving flexibility, joint range of motion and mobility. Other than the obvious benefits of improving an individuals athletic performance, manual stretching can decrease your risk of injury, decreases aches and pains, reduce postural tension due to aging while increasing the blood flow to your muscles to improve your whole body's function.
KINESIO TAPING (FUNCTIONAL ATHLETIC TAPING)
Kinesio Taping or Functional Athletic taping is a rehab taping technique. it is designed to aid in your body's natural healing process while lending support and stability to your muscles and joints. what is great about The Kinesio Taping Method is that it does not restrict your body's range of motion. Receptors within the somatosensory system are targeted and pain relief can occur due to lymphatic drainage that can be enabled by the Kinesio Tape. this is offered by our corrective exercise specialist, manual therapist and athletic trainer and can be done after or during a massage/manual therapy session or for it's own session.
